Great minds think alike Ben.
I never really gave it much thought until I started writing this blog and really focusing on it. I understood it but I just never really put it to words. Now that I have, it seems to be perfectly logical and I will never be able to hear the term "surprise expense" in the same way again.
Most adults understand that when they buy a car, there will be maintenance. They quickly forget though and don't keep any money around to deal with that mainenance. At the very least, you're going to need tires every once in a while. That was a $700 expense on my jeep. And tires can't fit in the surprise category anyway because you can watch them wear down. You know when you are getting close to time to replace them.

You know, this is exactly what I have been trying to tell my family for years. We could have planned for the extra expense involved in my "surprise" trip to the hospital in February. One can indeed plan, both financially and in terms of logistics, for such emergency events. They happen, and they are more likely to happen to people like me. You plan for what turns out to be the inevitable for someone like me. How about that, rocket scientists?
