- Go to Andy Rooney Spells Out The Differences Between Democrats and Republicans
I think you misunderstand his intent, Triggy. Rooney is just giving you a
no-frills, downsized version of what and who Democrats and Republicans are and how they generally think. If anything, he makes the Democrats look to soft and the Republicans too harsh, which lends the quote an argument for finding common ground...

Andy has a very sarcastic way about him, Blanche. It's usually conveyed by
his tone. Simplistic it may be, but it's not far from being as good a definition as any for the two parties.

Poor People
Aren't most poor people in Western countries immigrants who have recently arrived. Often I think these people are hard working and just need a helping hand so this hard work can truly contribute to society. I don't know who Andy Rooney is but sounds like his main aim is to keep the hierachy intact.

Saul Relative, well, there's another thing I don't like about Andy Rooney
(besides his eyebrows), and his inane babble about paper clips. His oversimplification of general beliefs. I don't agree that I think that people are saints, but I do think that most of us need a helping hand, from time to time, not a boot in the face.
