and feel superior to "them"

Ben, it's got to be hard on them then

now that more and more evidence is coming out to disprove the bible.  It's hard to claim your superior to others when you are believing is something that some guy made up a couple thousand years ago.

"Did you hear that they took the word gullible out of the dictionary?"

Also...
There is what some people see as the joy of being in with the in crowd - as in, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and join ABC church, and thou shalt be saved. "I'm saved - I believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and belong to ABC Church. You're not saved; you're the (name the insult) because you're neither saved nor a member of ABC Church." For some people, it's what they used to call an ego trip - feeling special at the expense of others. There's also a power "rush" involved in that feeling, that you can "lord it over" others because "I'm saved and you're not."

Xeno, without the rituals and little rules...
How can we nitpick and keep people on the defensive?

yeah
people become overawed by all these tiruals & stuff

in awe, etc.

and yet stranger still, we don't need them.

we are already saved.

lets accept that and get on with our lives.

Thanks Drew.
I knew the rituals were a distraction but I never thought about them being a distraction from doing good.  You are right though.  Thank you so much for the thought.

How is my life different?
Being raised Catholic, Catholic schooled through all the way to my Bachelor's degree, I really really thought that I was, easily, more in touch with true spirituality than others.  Being independent of any religious affiliation now, I am certain that I am no more in touch with true spirituality than anyone else.  It seems to me that, the ritual and rules of organized religions make it easy to coast along without truly working at what religion is truly about.  The shame is that when a person follows the "rules" of their organized religion, their sense of obligation to do more diminishes.  I know in my heart for certain that Jesus Christ does not care about how much money is given to the Church.  I am positive that he does not give a rat's ass about what you wear to Sunday Service.  The last two Masses I attended had these topics as the focus.

I guess I do not know how my life is different, but I know that I am moving in the right direction.  That is all I could ask for.  Good post!
