Minimum wage tied to union wages? Are you nuts?

Corby;  "You could not be more wrong.  You could try, but you would not be successful"--"Russ" (Ross's lookalike on "Friends")

Union contracts are tied to mimimum wage?  Do you even listen to yourself?  Union contracts are tied to union contracts!  They are set by collective bargaining, and are CONTRACTS!  Wages don't go up because other, unrelated groups get a raise (unless the contract specifically says so).  And I defy you to name a labor contract that has this clause.

People (not just union people, but people) voted for the increase in the minimum wage because they inherently know that its the right thing to do!!!  The minimum wage hasn't gone up in 9 years.  In the meantime, Congress has voted itself 7 pay raises, the cost of gas has doubled, and housing costs have gone up by 30% (Congresisonal Budget Office, 2005).

Think your arguments through before spouting them.  You can't just rely on numbers (of supporters) and shouting down the opposition to win;  sometimes, you need facts, logic & reasoning.

Note- I am not condemning them for doing it....we just overlooked what was going on....it was a great plan!

It is significant that in all six states where an initiative to raise the minimum wage was on the ballot, it passed, in most cases by overwhelming margins.

And it was just a coincidence that those six states also had high union memberships...which pulled out the vote? Which benefited the DEMS.  Why would union workers care about the minimum?  Union contracts are tied to the minimum wage......their wage goes up by what ever the minimum is raised.......a very nice , easy way to buy a huge block of votes, don't you think?
