As a retired military officer (Submariner), Gome...
I think you nailed it sound and true. The left always has had difficulty incorporating into its mindset facts that do not support its positions. I wrote about this in Through a Glass Darkly. Check it out.

not just think of themselves as god
but as the sole emissaries of god.

you can't have a revolution, convince the masses without conjuring ..
....the gods, such as the white anglo saxon industrial/military complex gods as we are now experiencing, but all leaders must invoke something larger than themselves to retain power...without that methodology, dogma, horse crap, they would never be able to extract tribute from distant foreign lands, nor would they be able to hold their own citizens to ransom for their aspirations of power and glory...oh, a great book that deals with WWII is Writers From World War Two ( I think I may have mentioned this before in your comment section)

SuccessWarrior - a few years back, I had a lengthy discussion with a

Japanese war veteran.

He is convinced that his country would have never surrendered otherwise. He is also convinced that he would not be alive today if not for the use of atomic bombs. The entire Japanese citizenry, down to every last woman and child were prepared to die repelling any landing. Any attempt to take the main Japanese islands by conventional means would have likely resulted in far more casualties than both bombs combined, with this number shared by both sides. Modern day revisionists take none of this into consideration. It is my conclusion that the official version of the use of the atomic bombs saving American and Allied lives while bringing about a surrender that was otherwise not going to happen in the foreseeable future, is accurate.

Gome, I am currently reading a book about WWII
It's a collection of interviews of American Veterans.  Yesterday I read where one of the soldiers was recently back from Germany and was about to be sent to Japan and he said, "Thank God for the A-bomb."  Earlier in the interview he went into detail about how hard it was to fight the Japanese because they wouldn't surrender no matter what.

Very interesting.
I must agree with you that enormous problems erupt whenever MEN come to think of themselves as God.
