Well, Writer, when the Professor wakes up from his nap, I'll let him know
you have had commented.  I'm sure you two will have lots to talk about.

I hadn't seen this yet either, Blanche!

Now, Professor, it’s your turn!

Interesting that one-party rule is a huge issue until it’s all Democrats. That exact thing happened here in Ohio. “Vote for Change – Vote Democrat” got us all Democrats locally and all but one Democrat statewide. It’ll be interesting to see if they complain about that now.

We already had a divided government – executive, legislative and judicial. In case you haven’t noticed, there was a huge amount of division between the executive and the judicial over the past five years, regardless of which party was where. Question: Was your concept of a “divided government” a virtue in your opinion when Clinton was in the White House and Republicans controlled Congress? Methinks not.

As far as who breaks truce first, we may not have long to wait. John Bolton is up for formal confirmation as our United Nitwits ambassador, and Joe Biden already has the knife out for him (see http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/11/09/AR2006110901185.html)

Now about conservatives being “so mean-spirited for so long” – you’ve got to be kidding. Just look back at the last six years of left-wing rhetoric and see who’s been “mean-spirited.” Lying, race-baiting, hate-mongering (Screamin’ Howard bragging about hating Republicans and everything they stand for, for starters), smears, personal destruction – we’ve seen and heard it incessantly from the left.

Hey, the liberals are weighing on!

Thanks for commenting, Blogflogger and Peabody! Always glad to have your input.

Nice wish list, Blogflogger! I concur on a number of points, but here are some thoughts on a few:

the $69 billion tax cut bill that President Bush signed in May 2006 tripled tax rates for teenagers with college savings funds. Reverse this.

Indeed. Where there are injustices, correct them. But for the love of God, leave the tax cuts in place overall. That’s what launched the economy into recovery.

… Presidential statements may NOT override legislation after signing. The president cannot state any and all exemptions from the law.

Wasn’t aware they did. But he does need a line item veto.

… implement the recommendations of the 911 Commission

With discretion. The 911 Commission was overly politicized (what on God’s green earth was Jamie Gorelick, creator of the wall that prevented law enforcement and intelligence from sharing information, doing on the Commission?)

… incarcerate all found in the U.S. illegally (instead of “catch and release”)

Problematic, given the massive numbers. Immediate deportation would be good as well.

… inspect all cargo coming into our ports

Again, problematic because of the logistics. Best way would be to seal the containers at port of origin because the massive volume of traffic through some of our ports, particularly Long Beach/Los Angeles, precludes inspection there without massive expansion.

… NOT approve selling our port operations to the likes of the United Arab Emirates

Port operations as such were not up for sale. Contracts for stevedoring, the actual handling of containers, was the issue. Anyway, a moot point given the UAE firm’s stevedoring contracts at ports of export.

… focus first on keeping us safe within our shores rather than starting fights in the Middle East

So we should have left al Qaeda alone in Afghanistan and Iraq?

… not torture prisoners

Methinks you don’t know what torture is. How about you ask a few of Saddam’s victims?

… restore habeaus corpus for all

I assume you want constitutional protections for military detainees? Not a good idea.

… abide by the Geneva Conventions

We do already. Look up whether or not terrorists are covered by its protections. Hint: They exempt themselves by their own violations of its rules against their conduct and tactics.

… stop the common use of inflammatory rhetoric which further incites the unstable terrorists of the world

I assume you would demand this of the Democrats and their defeatist rhetoric as well?

… establish relations and talks with all countries in the world (do not pick and choose)

That is the basic idea, but what would you prefer when the other participant is dishonorable, as North Korea was with the Clinton administration concerning nuclear energy?

… stop building the 8 permanent bases in Iraq

Why?

… care about the opinions of the world and behave as a member of the international community

The great failing of the Clinton foreign and national security policies was putting the currying of international favor above our own best interests.

… keep religion out of politics – true separation of church and state

Very problematic! How do you propose to isolate a politician’s ethics based in his or her religious beliefs out of the conduct of his or her duties?

… no no-bid contracts – contract monitoring and enforcement

There are times when no-bids are necessary for sake of expediency. Cleanup and relief services after a disaster are a prime example.

… all monitoring of U.S. citizens will be through warrants to the FISA court

FISA means Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. You base your suggestion on the false premise that FISA activities involve domestic communications, when they are limited to international telecommunications. Thus, your suggestion is self-contradictory.

Professor_Peabody - Yep, no response from JanesOpinion. They give...
... us adjectives (noxious) and name-calling, we give them facts and statements, they return with silence.

Where's your response to Blogflogger?
Be careful what you ask for; you just might get it!  You wanted a liberal voice, but all I hear in response is silence.  We do NOT have one-party rule; that's been the problem for 6 years. One party in the white house, one in the senate, one in the house (and pretty much one in the supreme court).  We now have a divided government;  dems in congress, republicans in the executive.  Now, to get anything done, we're all going to have to share our toys and play nice.  Let's see who breaks the truce first; President Bush has offered an olive branch, (actually, a sacrificial lamb.  Bye Bye, Rummy). And Speaker Pelosi sounds reasonable.  Let's see who commences the partisan attacks first.  I'm betting it's the White House or the Republicans; as they said about the scorpion "It's my nature".  The conservatives have been so mean-spirited for so long, I'm betting that they just can't help themselves!

JanesOpinion - This "noxious" liberal has a partial list to share. How...

... could I resist, after that lovely invite you extended?

…the $69 billion tax cut bill that President Bush signed in May 2006 tripled tax rates for teenagers with college savings funds. Reverse this.

… Presidential statements may NOT override legislation after signing. The president cannot state any and all exemptions from the law.

… enforce existing immigration laws.

… no electronic elections without paper trail. We should use paper ballots, mailed out to voters, mailed in or dropped at polling stations, and counts accomplished with OCR equipment.

… control our borders

… require passports for all border crossings

… implement the recommendations of the 911 Commission

… incarcerate all found in the U.S. illegally (instead of “catch and release”)

… inspect all cargo coming into our ports

… NOT approve selling our port operations to the likes of the United Arab Emirates

… focus first on keeping us safe within our shores rather than starting fights in the Middle Ease

… establish relations and talks with all countries in the world (do not pick and choose)

… stop building the 8 permanent bases in Iraq

… care about the opinions of the world and behave as a member of the international community

… listen to the advice and recommendations of our military (with advisory committees of the retired)

… hold our elected representatives to campaign promises

… employ recall elections when elected reps go awry

… build up our military or do not overextend it unnecessarily

… serious campaign finance reform

… transparency in other than intelligence activities

… professional (appointed and voted by Congress) ethics committees (non-partisan)

… all Congressional testimony will be under oath

… one issue, one bill – NO pork

… actual and thorough lobbying reform

… keep religion out of politics – true separation of church and state

… balanced budgets only

… experience requirements for political appointees for specific jobs (i.e., FEMA)

… no no-bid contracts – contract monitoring and enforcement

… all monitoring of U.S. citizens will be through warrants to the FISA court

WriterofLight - As expected no liberals have responded to this post. I may
have to verify for myself your statement about the deficit but otherwise your list is right on.  These figures prove the Dems are more worried about tearing down the social values of the United States (its their only agenda) than building the country.
