- Go to Military Times Media Calls for Rumsfeld to Resign
Passionflower, are you familar with . . .
. . . the criticism of which you write? It seems that the six generals were roundly condemned by their colleagues for their inappropriate conduct. Read about the generals and the events surrounding their critcism at http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2006/4/18/141749.shtml.

Okay, Peabody, I have a question:
If the enlisted men are so bright as you claim, then how is it that over on your blog you claim, "Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY, assumes that people join the Army to avoid jail or because they can't get a 'real' job" (see
http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Blog.aspx/Professor_Peabody/)? Hardly the image of bright, intelligent men and women.

At least a half dozen generals have also gone on record
Saying that Rumsfeld is an arrogant asshole and that he should step down before the war gets any more messed up.
Would these men risk their reputations on some vendetta? No! They wouldn't - They came out with the truth about Rumsfeld's incompetence because of their concern for our troops and because they felt the war would not go in a good direction with him running it.

The Army Times Editorial
Wow, you were very quick to dismiss the editorial and cast aspersions on the writers motivations. Did you, by chance, read the piece? I read it, and the comments section that followed. While anyone can comment, the Army Times is, quite obviously, read primarily by active duty & retired military personnel. And the comments section is running at about 5 to 1 in favor of the editorial. So I guess the Times does speak for the Army.
And since when is the USA Today a "liberal newspaper"? And just calling it or someone a "liberal" does not invalidate their facts or conclusions. Show me examples of a bias, or a factual error. Don't just label something as "liberal" and dismiss it. Why is it liberal? Because they disagree with you or the President? To paraphrase Socrates, when he was called a "crazy old man" by his critics, he replied "Then humor this crazy old man, and answer my question!"
Enlisted men & women are not stupid. They know when they're being lied to, misused and manipulated. And they know instincively when they're being misled. Maybe they can't speak up, for fear of repurcussions. Just look at the Navy lawyer, after taking his Gitmo case to the Supreme Court and WINNING, who was passed over for promotion and forced to resign. Lots of things go into promotion boards, but a lawyer who successfully sued the US Government in the Supreme Court must be pretty good.
