That is strange for a cat to follow strangers like that...
it is also strange that it does not go back home, as it probably has a home with the collar that it has on. Shame, hope the kitty find his way back home otherwise you'll have to adopt. I am allergic to cats, so we do not have one! My kids love cats but I just get too sick. I had a cat once in my life and I loved her to bits and was very sad when we had to give her away. We gave her to friends a week before we moved here to Zambia from South AFrica and she kept coming back to the house and that was like 10km distance away. She was a sweetie!

It was probably just being friendly
It seems a little too young and too trusting to be out by itself, but if it has a flea collar, it probably does have a home.
