Iraq seems to be a dumping ground for those who fail to learn

I could have imagined John McCain saying something like that, smartdog,
but, alas, he let me down and turned party politician...

Saul
This is a great piece.  It rises to the level of importance demanded by its subject.  That being said, I'm a bit of a pessimist when it comes to elections (as you may know already), but I will hope for the best and vote according to my beliefs.

I agree with your comments on this latest "issue" regarding Kerry's comments.  Can you imagine what would have happened if the republicans simply said, "I think he (Kerry) probably didn't mean what came out of his mouth.  I'm sure he is as supportive of our troops as everyone else..."

be well,

Good point, food4thought. I, personally, can see both sides of this issue.
And you're right.  This is a subject that should get some rational attention, not some lame moralizing and fake offended finger-pointing.  One thing is certain, most of our troops didn't sign up to be involved in an ill-conceived and badly implemented military fiasco...

Saul...
As a veteran, I can tell you there is some truth in Kerry's words, whether we like it or not.  It is not an insult to the troops, they know it better than anyone.  That they chose to serve their country in a volunteer military doesn't make them dumb, it makes them people who fulfill the obligation to live in a free society by serving that society.  Sure, if you stay in school and do well, you could avoid military duty, but not everyone is cut out for that life, just as not everyone is cut out for the military.  It's too bad this became a  plolitical tennis ball, it's something that needs to be discussed rationally.
