my point is that it is too small a step in the right direction (particularly for someone as wealthy as is Oprah). And the focus is all wrong - on the donor (as in, on both Oprah and those expected to spend that $1K on charitable purposes), rather than the recipient (of the goods bought by all those $1K debit cards). Also, it's impossible to buy some goods with that sum; if, for example, one wanted to buy certain types of construction materials for Habitat for Humanity (a worthy recipient of this largesse), one could not afford to do so with a mere $1K debit card. (Keep in mind that I'm not suggesting buying luxury items, just large necessities, like grocery items in bulk and the aforementioned construction materials.) Are we putting a drop in the bucket to make a donor look good, or are we anonymously donating something someone can actually use, out of the goodness of our collective hearts?
