It was great, if I do say so myself.

TVBlogger - I actualy sympathize with Jimmy to a certain extent
I've been in the same boat where a huge project has been going sour with funds sitting at my disposal that were earmarked for other purposes and that could have bailed the project out. That essentialy is the situation he found himself in. He began borrowing earmarked funds to cover cost overruns and shortfalls. There is nothing unique about that situation. Most honest businessmen however do what I did. Open the books to all investors with full disclosure. There is no doubt that he was humble and contrite but having such a frame of mind looses its value when it comes after being caught with your hands up to their elbows in the cookie jar. If he had of come forward as the project soured, it would have saved his reputation and ultimately been the right thing to do.

Schatz - your thinking encapsulates my own thinking on the subject

There simply canot be a right or wrong in terms of a specific religious belief. If this omnipotent creator being that mankind has created so many versions of actually existed, there would have to be a set of common criteria amongst all of mankind. Being lucky enough to be born into and to practice the right religion doesn't make any sense, nor does demonstrating worship for a being that is supposedly bigger than the accolades of mere mortals. This leaves us with our actions as the one commonality amongst all of mankind. Exhibiting alltruism to the best of our abilities, doing the right thing as our conscience' guides us to do and leaving this world a better place for us having existed, are all that any one person can do.

You went out on halloween as Tammy Faye? That must have been hilarious.

The Halloween that I was sixteen I wore an old dress of my mom's-

canary yellow, and in a modest yet modern early eighties style- and tons of mascara. My mom then sprayed my face with a water bottle to make the mascara run. I carried a bible and a donation receptacle (candy bag). It was a hoot. I wish I had a picture of that get up. Happy Halloween.

And by the way, I agree that the best way I can honor any god who created me is by using my noodle, behaving in a respectable and sensible manner and just generally being a kind and helpful human being. I try to think environmentally and have borne three wonderful kids. I feel like I've done exactly what any creator would have wanted. I will never be sorry for not adhering to a religion. I think in years to come, the religions of today will be seen the same way the myths of other cultures are seen- as a way for primitive people to explain 'unexplainable occurrences'. I believe it's my right to hold that opinion, just as it's the right of any Christian, Buddhist, Muslim or Scientologist to hold to their beliefs. No one knows which of us is right, and I doubt seriously that any one group is the 'rightest'.

I once had the opportunity for a great picture but didn't take it.
My parent's were huge fans of PTL during it's height.  Probably after they'd given them some of their hard-earned money they were sent a decorative license plate that had PTL in big letters.  My parents proudly attached it to the back of their motorhome for all to see.  Years later, after the scandal broke, I was out behind their house and saw their motorhome with the PTL license plate discarded and lying on the ground... PTL had fallen from grace and from the back of my parent's motorhome.  Should have taken a picture.

Anyway, I've seen interviews with Jim Baker that showed a very humbled and contrite man who is working hard to do some good with the rest of his life. Tammy Faye on the other hand, never seems to have learned a single lesson from the entire debacle.  Then again, I don't know their hearts.  But, do I think they'll go somewhere different than each other?  Nope.  Hell isn't biblical and it's certainly not logical.

MountainClimber56 - it would be a little difficult for me to honor a God
When it is considered that I do not believe that this entity exists. I have however honored my own legacy to the best of my ability. Some may consider how I attempt to conduct myself (Blogit detractors aside) as honoring God but "starting" is not an issue, it has always been this way for me.

Gomedome -- How have you treated your God? Have you honored
Him with your time, talent and money?   If you haven't, then there is a nice place to start your forgiving process!

SuccessWarrior - like how would a guy like old Jimmy get a job?
He probably doesn't need one but you would think that his credibility is just about as shot as it could be.

MountainClimber56 - I'm still working on what I would be asking forgiveness

for?

I've never committed a crime, so would I be asking forgiveness for being human or for having human shortcomings? Wouldn't an all knowing omnipotent creator being already have all of this covered?

Gomedome, The only hope for all us is the same for
Jim and Tammy, the forgiving grace of God, even you will need that when you die!
