Frankenkitty, believe it or not, it's not that noisy.
On certain days they have manuevers and exercises (sometimes in the middle of the night, which can suck.... but I figure more for them than me) and it can be pretty loud.  You can tune it out.  It's not like airport noise, it's bigger and closer sometimes, and depending who's flying we get rattled.  But, I lived by another Navy base before and the helicopters flew over my apartment, so out here it's easy to live in some path or another.  Most times it's not to bad.  I'm used to city living and I'll take this over crackheads any day!  We're pretty suburban now, and right now I hear the freeway a little and that's it.  It was almost too quiet for us when we moved here.  I just watch them outside sometimes, it's cool. :)

Holy Grail
You know, Navy pilots seem to assume every thing is about them (the ones I know, K, no panties in a bunch).  But, Marine Airmen are very unassuming.  Navy are supposed to be the best, so, who knows?  But I love the grace of the aircraft, and I feel so safe in this city with such a competent military around me.  You know, I shop at the commissary on base now, and I was with Eddie the other day and I fainted.  It happens, stress, brain stuff, not a huge deal.  It doesn't happen often, but I forgot to eat and we have a lot going on right now so we're busy... you know.  Anyway, I guess I hit the floor kinda fast, taking down tissue and paper towels with me.  Eddie came to me right away, but one arm is in a sling still from his surgery.  This other woman stopped and was nearly frantic.... are you okay?  do you need water?  can I call someone?  I just hate a fuss, and was embarrassed.. I said no, I'm okay, it happens all the time... tried to make light of it.  I told Eddie later that if that had happened anywhere else there was a good chance no one would have helped me, even if he was there.  I have a new appreciation for the men and woman in my armed services.  Not all serve in war, but most of them have serving the country and all of us in it in their heart.  It's a whole different place on base.  And you know, they even have a special parking space up front, BEFORE the CO, for pregnant women?  That's awesome. :)

Doggie, I'm lucky, I see every pretty plane here.
Miramar is the home of some of the airshows, so some times we see the old WWII planes, an earlier model of say an F14 and the newer fancy bomber F18's and some I don't know the names of all fly together.  I see Helo helicopters, Blackhawks, Apaches, and believe me, those guys will knock stuff off the walls if they are bored enough and flying low.  We have the Blue Angels shows here, as many places, but when they are here I don't think we'll even have to go to the base to see them.  I'm fascinated with military aircraft, and some other vehicles.  My husband laughs at me because when we're at base (he's at Camp Pendleton about 35 miles north but we live near Miramar Air Station), either one, I'm like a little kid with all the toys.  So fascinating how these huge clunky things can do so much, and my husband relied on a track in Iraq to protect him. He is a radio communications operator for the 3rd Amphibious Assault Battalion (if you watch the Military Channel you'll see the 1st division, 5th Marines -- meaning Battalion -- and they are documented all over the place... he was in bootcamp for the first push into Baghdad, but he pushed into Fallujah and spend a lot of time in Al Anbar, as are most of our devil dogs).  The jargon, first marines, 5th this, it still takes me awhile, but he's filmed in some places... we still can't find him though. :)  Other people have and told us.  Since he's home and safe I can be fascinated with it.  23 guys sleep in a track.  Cool.  This is a track.  Lots  o'stinky marines  in there... lol...

I'm sure they never dreamed that a poem would be written about them!

Angels above.  I wish I could see those (F-18s)on a regular basis.  In Tucson all I ever saw were A-10s.  they're called warthogs and they look like it.  Not too pretty like your angels, but pretty damn forceful when they need to be.

Be well,
