Personal responsibility is vital in the medical realm
If you're going to go into the doctor's office, and he says that diet is the sole or primary treatment for your disease (this is true of some diseases, like celiac disease and diabetes), you're responsible for following that diet for the rest of your natural life. There used to be a time when patients were never told of their diagnoses; now, it's considered unethical
not to give a patient his or her diagnosis. (This is something I've had plenty of experience with given my complex medical history.)

TV, I'm with ya on this.
I'll be 40 next month and I'm not on any meds. People think that's odd. I think it's odd that everyone and their dog is on some kind of med.
And like you, I believe that my health is MY health. Doctors are there to help me.

Yeah?
Well, when you find a doctor like that now, let me know and i"ll drive however far it takes to see him. My anti-doctor attitude has a lot to do with my farm upbringing... just didn't have them around and we learned to have a preventative attitude. I still have that attitude and I'm one of the few people in this country who isn't on any medication. I take my health seriously and would like doctors to help me with that. Instead they see me as another idiot who couldn't possibly know as much as they do and it might be cute that I ask questions, but really... why bother explaining anything to me. What doctors can't seem to get through their heads is that the patient is in charge of their health and the decisions made are theirs alone. Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now.
