Whacky,
They seem to go dormant for a period of time. Maybe that's why the go dormant, cuz there's no flies. ?? I guess that makes sense.

Hi Alf!
We hunt for flies, too. But now, it seems the Seymour's went into their dormant stage. Damn, we were having so much fun with them. Can't wait til they wake up again.

Hopefully Pitiful was gentle!

Spitfire...
I didn't know you moved to Oregon, we are practically neighbors now.  I had some Venus fly traps when I was a kid.  Like you, I grew impatient waiting for fly's to land in them so I started hunting for them.  Then I tried feeding them little balls of hamburger...then chucks of Boloney.  I think it was the boloney that finally killed them.  So...NO BOLONEY!

Cool plant/s.

What ya gonna feed them when it gets cold and there are no more flies?

Spitfire, Son Mark has always loved messing with exotic plants and always thought he would like to have a Venus fly trap.   So, we finally found a little one and got it for him for his birthday.  It had several little fly traps on it.  He was so thrilled and couldn't wait to try it out on some flies.  But, that very night, Pitiful got up on the table where it was sitting and decimated it apparently eating the little traps.  If Son #1 wasn't such a gentle soul, I think he might have decimated her.

Sir Strat, I know what they are now.
They are cool!

Oh, Young Miss! Ant Lions are cool!
You may call them something else -- some cal them Doodlebugs. They dig this little conical depression in the ground and hide under the sand in the bottom. Then when some unsuspecting critter, like a freakin' fire ant, falls into the pit -- smooth, sandy, unscalable walls, the works -- it comes out from under and munches out.

Um, Sir Strat,
What the hell is an ant lion?

Success, Lindsey (the German Shepherd) puts in a good
effort but sadly, she's not very skilled at it! My Aussie, Taylor used to just sit and watch a fly out of the corner of her eye (hey, that rhymes!) until it got close enough. She'd stay really still and then WHAP! Gets it on the first try!

My Beloved's little corgi is an excellent fly trap.
But I do love the Venus Fly Traps -- they're fun. I also enjoy watching ant lions at work.

Tek, my black lab, does our fly catching
He's pretty good at it too.  We don't have many though.
