sorry with experience in the commercial world

Interesting - Of course in my grandmother's day women teachers had to quit when they married
I think that there is an argument for having people with commercial world spend a year or two on placement as teachers with no loss in salary and for teachers to experience life outside the education system.

Thanks, DL!
I am writing a book in which one chapter is devoted to education. I will post pertinent part of this here a bit later...as soon as I have moved in completely to my new place.

Wow! Something of Yours...
...I agree with, for a change!

I like your analysis of the drop in quality sionce the 50s and 60s. The other problem we have is that the current system was designed (here in the UK) to meet the needs of the Industrial Revolution. And the subjects were based back then on the departments within Oxford and Cambridge. As a society, we've out-grown it, long ago.

Have you ever checked out the work of John Taylor Gatto, New York State Teacher of the Year, 1991? You should. He thinks the whole education system sucks, and needs a complete re-think. AND he has some great ideas and possible solutions.

Nice one.

good post

though I am now thoroughly depressed and excited at the same time

I am depressed because my better than average education has stagnated me with its mediocrity and I am excited because I was smart enough to not allow the same thing to happen to my own children.
