Yes Julia,
I believe that Adrienne is among my very best of friends.  She's the only friend I have a tattoo of, lol.

Chrylann...
I think you are correct to a large degree.  Much of how a dog turns out is environmental, it's in the rearing and how they are loved, not that different from kids.

Thanks Strat...that is a great quote.

It would be a truly great world
if our beloved pets could live as long as we do. Cats can live up to 20 or more years but even that is not long enough. Saying goodbye is so heartbreaking. Adrienne is your child but even better, because she can also be your best friend!!

From my experience, dogs are like their people........
Twiggy/cocker-poo. I named her. I was ten years old, it was the sixties. She was the only dog I ever truly loved. She more resembled a torpedo after she was spayed. We adopted her almost a year before my little brother was born. She had beds, toys, even a small table & chair and said grace with the family. She never really growled or barked, just uttered guttural sounds resembling important things like hungry, want out & I love you. She went to doggie heaven just after my 22nd birthday. We all went home that weekend to morn together. It still hurts. Haven’t been able to give my heart since, although I have doggie nieces and nephews who visit often. I even have doggie coworkers. Stanley & Stella hang with me at work all week. I think dogs become who they are according to those who love them.

I forgot who said,

"the more I know of people, the more I love my dog," but it's a fairly spot on statement. Your dog sounds like a terrific one at that.

My favorite quote about animals and dogs in particular was from a conversation I had last year with Blues legend Eddie Kirkland. He apparently loves dogs, and all animals, really. He said, "Be kind to animals; they're God's eyes."

The poetry reading is an art, not a science, Alf, I think Julian wants a

time limit on each reader, if there's a crowd to keep it within the 2 hour format, and I'll ask him, what he thnks that is. But really, bring whatever you feel you want to share, he's the one with professional poet friends, and they're very friendly, and appreciative.  There were all kinds of poems, from the funny and ironic, to the war protests, to love poems, to whatever you feel. Just show up and read, don't worry.

And, yes, I keep a wary eye, btw, you can bring your dog with you, C & P is a very dog-friendly place, if your dog plays wel with others, because there will be several in there at any given time.

Thanks Blanche...

Yes it's always a good idea to approach any strange dogs cautiously, you never know how their owners have treated them.

I will plan on coming to this poetry reading.  Perhaps you could email me and tell me how it is doen, how many poems are read, how many poets one would expect, etc?

Alf, the open mic poetry reading at the C&P is Sunday, Jan. 21st, 3-5 pm
You're more than welcome to bring whatevver poetry you have to read. In fact, I hope you do. It's very informal.

Alf, I've heard that pit bulls can be the sweetest, gentlest dog if they're
raised right, and treated well. I still keep my distance when I meet one out walking though. What if my character is not all that good?  Is that how I would want to find out, lol?

I wish dogs lived longer... she sounds like a good one!
