Nana,
you just gave me an idea. Even though I am not going anywhere near Orange County, I think I'm going to put some old clothes into a bag for Sally Ann...

I love giving away clothes because it's a great way to get rid of
stuff--I hate too much unnecessary clutter! I recently did the same thing as well as you. Good luck with the move!

I just got two great pair of work pants at the local Salvation Army
and I was so grateful to find them....we're strapped for cash so I had to go the cheap route. Both for under five bucks!! :) Good luck breaking the news.

Good luck with that job, Nana. I've done it many times, but never again. They'll carry me out of this house feet-first. I'm done moving. We had a career in the military, retired, then a career in the Federal Government (VA) and moved around many times again. retired again. Like I said, feet-first (or maybe, foot-first).
I don't envy you. haha

it all sounds exciting nanaroo, being able to shed parts of the past and
plan for your new horizons. do keep the camera handy and take pictures. a photographic journal of a big occasion is always nice to have. happy days to you.

Hi ya- yeah, my hubby has books he can't part with either. I think I've found us some good movers though.... thanks for your visit, as always. Today I have to tell the kids I'm leaving and I'm so nervous.

Brings back memories, your story of packing and moving.
My big give-up was books. A whole collection of Tony Hillerman's mysteries that I took to the used bookstore up on Capitol Hill before I left. I hated to part with them, but I know they'll be welcome in someone else's big cozy reading chair. There were other books I've had for decades that I couldn't part with, no matter how heavy they are and that movers charge by the pound... :)

I know this feeling. I was moving so many times in my life, so giving away
my stuff isn'tunfamiliar to me. Last time, when i was before a hugerenovation in my apt. I went thrugh my stuff again. I have a Solvation Army store on the corner of my street, so it was easy to deliver all those boxes I packed to the store. And yes, I saw a person wearing my old jacket on the street. She looks in it better than I .

Good luck with your moving.

Nanaroo, I recycle clothes constantly, buy them at consignment stores
then when I'm done with them, pass them on, and it feels like a good housekeeping thing to do. Getting rid of stuff, that feels very cleansing to me, too, lightening the load, so to speak.

hi ya- I went through them all about three times and had to get tough with myself, saying, 'now are you really going to ever wear that again?' I basically usually only wear a small set of clothes that are comfortable...

thanks- I was imagining someone wearing the clothes who had maybe lost all of their clothes in a fire or something. I'll let you know if I see that book you were asking about...

Nanaroo...
Once I gave away a lot of clothes to a gal I worked with. The following week at a mandatory meeting, I saw the mother and the daughter walk in wearing some of the clothes that I had given. It was a nice feeling.
Have a good week with the children, Nanaroo.
ps. Do you know if there is a sight on line where I can download the child's story book, (The Old man who Didn't want to wash his Dishes.)? Illustrator Phylis Krasilovsky-1950.
