if there's someone who handles the building, i would ignore the person who

wrote the note.  if you're truly making too much noise, proper channels can be taken at which time you can give it your attention.  if a person doesn't have the cajones to sign the note, i would ignore them anyway, building manager or no.

i would also make a mental note about my own noise and try to be considerate, regardless of the other person's tact or lack thereof.

Kasthu, I have the almost identical situation, one neighbor left me notes

for playing my music (during the day at normal volume), until I left her a page long note saying, in effect, "I have done everything humanly possible to accomodate you, I've sound checked outside in the hallway, even on the balcony with the windows open, and I can't hear it, nor can the neighbors with whom I share an adjacent wall (this woman is the neighbor directly below me).  If you want to go to the management, please feel free, I've done what I can, and by the way, I am usually home when you leave these notes, and an adult who wanted to resolve the situation, would come knock on my door and talk to me politely. I don't like your tone.  Otherwise, if you want total silence, buy a house and leave me alone."

I never heard another peep out of her and that's been over a year ago.

On the other hand, I share a wall with a family who are the noisiest people on the planet, rude and disrespectful with a child who throws temper tantrums while they do nothing to stop it. I went to the management, they sent out a letter, it stopped for a while, but creeping back up again, fortunately I heard they're moving in 2 weeks, so this will end.

That's my suggestion:  either return the note, explaining that you would work with her if she would be nice and talk to you face to face, (I hate notes, they're chicken) and/or go to the management and explain.

kasthu

Return the compliment. Tack a note to her door ...

" Health warning! Reading notes attached to your door can damage your eyes! It also damages the door."
