kooka_lives - there is no doubt that if religious beliefs were

constructed today, with today's knowledge, they would not resemble current religious beliefs in the slightest.

All of the ancient religions were constructed bit by bit over a time when mankind was primitive, ignorant, superstitious and universally used a belief the supernatural world to explain the inexplicable. If that type of religious construct were introduced today for the first time, its proponents would be laughed out of town. However, where the comment of mine that you refer to in this post was tongue in cheek, there is no discounting mankind's desire for all of these ancient religious constructs to be true. This wishful thinking, inherent in the make up of the majority of human beings, is why these religious constructs exist in the first place. It has been instrumental in proliferating the improbable for so many centuries and will also be a huge factor for years to come in never allowing mankind to fully escape the grip of these irrational beliefs.
