- Go to Who owns your life - you, other people or God?
One thing I didn't make clear in my entry is that there is a difference between putting an end to suffering - a legitimate goal - and actually dying. I can understand that someone would want an end to suffering, but I feel, personally, that we have to find a way to do that without engaging in assisted suicide. Also, what's intolerable for a person varies from person to person. Some of us have a higher tolerance for suffering than others, although we all do reach a point at which suffering becomes intolerable.

From my POV, suicide is mean.
Often the motivation behind a suicide attempt is to get even with someone for some perceived wrong. It's the ultimate bid for revenge with no possibility "they" can ever get even. Oh, sure there's depression and self-hatred involved, but the bottom line is that it's done to inflict pain on others.
I understand how a person living in constant pain or restricted to bed and kept alive by machines would want an end to suffering -- that's different. I've considered "taking the easy way out" at times when life was sh*t. What stopped me was the fear of being damaged, dependent and restricted to bed and kept alive by machines.
