bel, that's beautiful that you have heroes in your life, someone you really love and look up to. I have my husband of 42 years, he has always taken care of me and his children, he's a great grandfather to his grandchildren (not a great grandfather, but a great grandfather, hahaha you got that?). Now he is still a caretaker. He has, literally, been taking care of me for the past seven years. I would die without him. He's my hero and I hope God has plans for many more years of my having him.
I liked your post. It made me take another look and see how much I appreciate my husband. Thanks for sharing.

bel...
My Mom was certainly a hero, basically raising me alone with my Dad passing away when I was only 4...I came along when she was already 43.... how she ever raised the likes of me alone is a miracle in itself..
..
Liz is of course my current hero....how she puts up with me at times has got to be a portrait of patience.
..come January we'll be celebrating 38 yrs of marriage.
..
An uncle I never knew is a hero, too..he also was a tailgunner in W.W.2, in the R.C.A.F., and he never came home after being shot down over Holland..I'm named after him, and feel it an honor to bear his name.

Nice writing - sentimental without becoming maudlin...
My heroes are the ordinary folk who lead good lives quietly, those who face crippling adversity and keep on going, those who offer quiet comfort and support to the ones who are struggling. Kids with cancer, hospice workers and the like.

There are too many to list. Isn't is a shame the good guys
rarely make the news?

I agree with Blanche--those were nice tributes and
good heroes. We all need 'em. Mine is my Mom--it's amazing with all that she has gone through in her life, that she is still standing tall at 79...

Bel, that is an amazing tribute to your grandpa, to Carl, and to the
woman you've chosen not to identify. I truly believe you are right, that those who perservere in the face of adversity and those who show up and do the right thing, without fanfare or expecting great rewards or praise, are the real unsung heroes.
My heroes? One, is, of course, MG, who is sitting here beside me right now, on the couch, doing work in his off-time to prepare for a sale, and who is with me, supporting me emotionally and financially every day, and making my life the best it's ever been. He's my number one hero.
