I'm reading a book right now called
Lost Christianities, which gives the author's best guess (based on actual historical evidence) as to just how Christianity originated and the reasons why what we now know as Christianity has come to achieve what business people might call market dominance. I find the author's basic ideas interesting.

i think many don't
well i know of the origins of both churches of which i have been a member
one was started in the late 30's by a preacher from an Adventist branch.
the other was started with the American Revolution, breaking away from the Anglican Church.
the first had definite beliefs -- Jewish Holy Days -- 2nd coming, etc.
this one here -- it's called Catholic Lite -- uses the liturgy -- but beliefs are strewed through the spectrum just about.
