In a rush. Sorry. Twenty years ago, I'd have agreed with you. But look what's happening. Religion is being embraced like new age was twenty years ago. it's the new must-have appendage, with lots of pricet knick-knacks to boot, of course. What's behind this is also political and economic power. Would you rather be in a rich and powerful club, or out? With us, or against us? people do it for complex and often cynical reasons, i suspect.

How about oblivious?
However, ignorance is not bliss.  Not only should we make informed choices, the choices should be driven by intuition and what's in our hearts.

People between enlightenments - that sounds so PC

Religions will fight harder to maintain control as they continue to lose people but the fervor will die down sharply when they become the minority.  History has shown this model over and over.  Not just with religion but with any major shift in thought.  People who don't want to change to a better way because they are in their comfort zone fought harder and harder as more and more people follow the path of natural evolution.

I think today's technological world will bleed over to other areas, already is.  People change technology every 6 months now.  Upgrade software, upgrade hardware, get a new cell phone, and on and on.  I remember carrying a numeric pager which was the coolest thing since sliced bread.  Ancient history now.

People are getting into the mindset of looking for the next best thing.  Something that is hundreds of years old is not very useful in the world today.

(I should have done another post)

SuccessWarrior -you could refer to them as "people between enlightenments"
and I agree; with every new scientific discovery and even with every day that passes, it becomes more and more difficult for people to reconcile the improbable with reality. The exodus from organized religion will continue to slow and accelerate as society is exposed to outside influences that affect people's views about religion....but it will never stop. The in door will never again have as much traffic as the out door. This means that inevitably the non religious folks will attain critical mass, to a point where what society has endured from religious folks will be a thing of the past.

Thanks TV, that's the perfect word but it does have a bad connotation

The word you're looking for
is "ignorant."  It simply means lacking education or knowledge.  Most people think of it as meaning "stupid"... which is just ignorant.    You probably wouldn't win any friends by using it, but it is still the actual word you're looking for.
