they are adjusting on their own timetable and are fine as long as I don't force them to do something stupid like walk outside on a leash, lol.

It's just like people who don't have kids, yet are sure they could
do a better job raising yours!

Julia, I'll save them for a blograiny day.

Sounds like she thinks that cats are really smaller dogs!

At least you made her laugh...that is a good thing.

Julia., moves are traumatic in one sense and can be cathartic in another.
I hope  your cats adjust, in due time, and that you and your Mom somehow find some common ground.

I doubt even a bonafide dog (or cat) whisperer would know your own animal better than you!!

posted by Julia. on October 9, 2006 at 2:44 PM | link to this | reply

Julia...

I hate to tell you this but I think your mom may be onto something, hear me out.  All intelligent animals (cats included) are somewhat adaptable, like human children.  They will get away with stuff as long as we let them, they are resistant to change but when options are removed change happens rather quickly because there is no choice.

I'm really not a good one to give advice though, I was a lot harder on my kids than I ever was on Adrienne.  I had to give her a little spanking the other day and I felt bad about it all day long...pathetic I know.

Say what if you and your cats shared a meal of pickled herring out on the veranda?  That might be a nice icebreaker.

Funny story!

Julia
No one knows our animals better than we do- unless you're the dog whisperer.

strat--lol.
I would have been in hysterics too, despite knowing what it feels like to have kitty claws digging into my head...hehe. If u remember some keywords, search for the post...and if you can't find it, u should definitely write it.

posted by Julia. on October 9, 2006 at 12:36 PM | link to this | reply

Julia, I think I did, but can't remember when.
And you're right; only an idiot would do what she did. And I tried to tell her that, both before she grabbed the cat and started the process and after, between gasps, as the poor kitty was yowling his head off and digging claws into the top of my sister's head.

strat--
I'm confused--did you or didn't u post it?? BTW, no offense to sis but only an idiot would lower the tail in first...LOLOL.

well it sure didn't "sit right" with Belle! LOL. thanks for coming by.

If I hadn't already done so,
I'll have to post about the time my sister tried to give our cat a flea bath -- by lowering her tail first into a sudsy bucket of water. Like your mom, I was useless because I was laughing hysterically at the reaction -- which I had fully predicted.

Poor kitties! They'll get used to it eventually. But it does tke awhile!

Julia
well I can't picture poor little Belle on a leash, but I can picture your Mom howling with laughter at the site. Sweet post

It's one of those incidents that's not really funny when you think about it but one's first impulse is to laugh.

I know...lol...that infamous image of you in the dark glasses and long coat walking the cat still makes me laugh!

Julia.
How I feel about a cat on a leash is already established so I can safely say this wouldn't have happened to me. Truly a terrible predicament. Funny as hell, but terrible.

no she wasn't raised on a farm, she just hasn't had that much experience with animals of any kind. But it is kind of funny the advice she comes up with!

posted by Julia. on October 8, 2006 at 8:10 PM | link to this | reply

Ha ha ROFL! Sorry, Julia, for that experience but this delightful
post provided some hilarious mental images and hearty laughter.  I hope Annabelle has recovered from her frightening experience?  And your mother has stopped offering advice???

Julia., I wish my mother a long and healthy advanced age, but

the thought of living anywhere remotely near her, gives me hives.     Still, if your mom was raised with animals outside, as on a farm, she may not be as sympathetic as you'd like.

My grandmother was raised on a ranch, cats were for catching mice, they didn't belong in the house in her book. It was a different era.
