LOL Talion
I was hoping you would include your opinion on this matter.  Hmmmmmmmm now you have given me more to think about.  To be honest, I can't say that I have watched the movie beyond catching bits and pieces as I came into the room.  I just might have to watch it now.

I've been a devoted X-Men fan since my early teens, but until now, I've never thought about why. Yes, the genre is action-packed escapism, but it's more than that. A hallmark of good fiction, even if it's just a comic book or an action movie, is it's ability to convey some aspect of the human experience. A fan becomes a fan when the greater human experience mimics his personal experience.

The X-Men are a band of mutants, individuals that are different from the rest of society not because of any choices they made, but simply because they were born that way. Society doesn't like it and would prefer if they didn't exist. At some point in any minority's life, he/she can strongly identify with this concept. On a wider scope, most teens grappling with the pressures of impending adulthood can identify with it as well.

How do the X-Men react to the society that won't except them? They don't lash out violently in a bitter attempt to punish those that supposedly hate them or recreate the world as they envision like Magneto does (or like even someone like Osama Bin Laden). The X-Men seek acceptance through legitimate means and are willing to fight and even die defending those that hate them. They don't whine about their fate, complain, lose hope, point fingers, give up, or sit on their hands waiting for someone else to help them. The X-Men accept the responsibility and do it themselves

The question isn't why does a man like Carl like the X-Men. The question should be how could a man like Carl not like the X-Men?

Great post filled with good insight
BTW I am and X-men fan and any other movie in the same genre. I have never wondered why I enjoy them though. It has a lot to do with escapism

Bel

I'm glad that Carl has an outlet..........I can understand how the pressure of taking care of the family and with the world and its problems can get overwhelming at times.

Carl sounds very down to earth. That's why kids like him. I don't know how many I've come across who just look at me. I smile and either joke with them or brush up their hair. They just want to know that there are good people in the world.
