HI guys its me chiming in...Still on light duty Owie Tendonitis

At least I am learning to spell it right now that I have typed it a buncha times.

This quote tells me of the value of blogging and how it is becoming more and more valuable in the pursuit of accuracy and responsibility.  Thanks everyone :)

Mysteria, it sounds like John Swinton needed to get that off his chest.
It's more true now than ever. To get and keep a job in the White House, a reporter has to have credentials to get access. In order to keep their credentials, they can't write anything the White House disagrees with. That may be why the internet and blogging, even as zany and wacky as it is, with facts be damned, and all kinds of fringe ideas, is maybe the closest thing we have to a free press in the US, and even that they want to control.  I have hope that that won't happen, that writing our own truths will still set us free.

Mysterious One...
There is more than a grain of truth here.  Would investigative reporters be given free reign to look into the doings of large advertisers?  I can't say for sure, but most likely not.  Good post, your turn to give us some food for thought!

Mysti
I am impressed!  This is a penetrating quote.  I will surely pass it on.

Be well,

Having worked at a small weekly paper
for a year or so while in college, I'd have to say that John Swinton's comment is right on. However, we like to think as journalists that once in a while we sneak in a smidgen of truth and independent thought in spite of the editor/publisher gatekeepers.

Hummm. That is an interesting point of view.

Especially for that time. I gotta check out that "Labor's Untold Story."
