oh yes!! a half-assed comment is most certainly better than none, lol, unless it's obvious the commenter didn't read the post.

I find it's not that difficult to find something to say. Sometimes I just plain don't feel like it, so I don't...but that is not my norm.

............................................................................................Just kidding. I think we have talked about this before. I usually try to comment but sometimes I just don't have time and I don't want to leave a "half-assed" comment. Or, do you think a half-assed comment is better than none at all?

I agree with most of what you say. I think people don't like reading blogs
which are very long. I nearly always comment on what I read as most posts are interesting if you stick with the type of things you like reading about.

Beautifully written, Julia. I am guilty sometimes of not commenting.
I think the reason is that I usually leave very long comments, and if I don't have time to do that... I don't say anything at all.
I do agree with everything you said in this post, and I will try diligently to mend my "evil ways"!
Thank you for such a gentle reminder.

I saw that you were there, and that was enough my friend.

And...I didn't write this post in response to anything in particular, it was just my thoughts for the day.

You know I see where there are many more reads than comments and I wonder about that myself...Comments encourage us and sometimes they can be well rather discouraging. Either way I like to know the reader was there...

We do all like to have comments but we must also take into consideration that we may have hit on a topic that touches on a topic that reaches deep enough into a persons heart that they do not want to dwell there or perhaps their words to comment won't suffice with their thoughts.Speaking for myself .. Yesterday I read your post on your loss and I have commented to you several times explaining my compassion for you and your family. I've experienced the loss of a brother to suicide and during this past week I've had to explain some details to his son ( my nephew) I did not comment again yesterday but I thought you would understand my thought with the candle that was left for you. My intention yesterday was to catch up on my commenting and I did not want to dwell or relive the event in my mind. I'm sure that others have personal feelings of their own for not commenting and as you said.. it is their right. My intention was never to offend you.

Awww, blackcat said what I wnted to say...
although I also will say that sometimes I want to leave a comment but don't have time or brain power to leave it in a thoughtful way, so I plan to come back later...and then of course I forget about it. Okay, a lot of times! A lot of times I read but do not comment because I feel too mentally scattered with noise, fatigue, multitasking, to leave a comment that won't put my foot in my mouth...
Oh, screw it.

That's quite thought-provoking. Many a times some posts are so thought-provoking that try one might, one is unable to decide what and what not to comment. Do you think that this too could be one of the reasons?

Julia, comments are like support hose one wears on the legs, they help increase the circulation which feeds the brain and increases the flow of thoughts, ideas, and desire to be alive and creative.

Great post, Julia!
I always comment unless I run out of time and have to leave. There is almost always something to find in a post, no matter how bad it may be. And, often, the posts here are excellent and there is plenty to mull over and discuss.
Like I commented on blackcat's blog earlier, the posts that get few comments are usually some of my favorites...but that's because I am a loner!
