Sophistie -- I agree that choice is the key but the other point lost me
I have no idea what a few teachers breaking a trust with underage students to engage in sexual activity and that happen to be from one state suggests. I assume that I am not taking what you are inferring properly.

Choice is the Key!!
I live in Florida and with the number of teachers (female and male) sexually exploiting children in elementary, etc. before college age, what do you think that suggests?

Amazing that anyone can take that stance in the 21st century,
gomedome, especially an international organization.  Birth control should have been part of Vatican II.

SuccessWarrior - most people have no idea to what extent the catholic

church is a criminal organization.

But in being fair, I have never seen strong arm tactics or violence used by them. What I have seen is aiding and abetting criminals fleeing prosecution and extensive efforts at covering up criminal activity. What they do a lot of is buy silence. The one court case that I kept tabs on for the mission school that I attended has been wiped clean from history. All done so with unbelievably huge amounts of cash.

strat - you know the sad truth about this and other similar beliefs that

circumvent social responsibility.....

Normal people pay for it. Having grown up in this wacko religious community, I've seen firsthand what these nonsensical teachings do to people, especially females. Guilt becomes a big part of what should be a normal part of the human experience in enjoying sex. Human sexuality is an inescapable part of our make up and it is a vitally important aspect of intersocial behaviour to be aware of at the college age. Pretending that it does not exist, or pretending that all persons claiming to be adherents to a specific religion will go against their natural human sexual tendencies and abstain is completely foolish. Then there is the aspect of how young people choose the colleges they attend. In a religious community, there is a great deal of pressure to go to this type of college. No one is going to tell me that everyone attending that college believes in the validity of the prohibition on birth control. Is it really plausible that when you get however many thousand young college aged kids of both sexes together that they are all going to abstain from sex?.....yeah right.

Yeah, they asked and those that don't agree with the church
will likely have some reprecussions.  When a group akin to the mafia "asks" you to do something, you take a risk going against their wishes.

You know, I get really wound up about stoopid stuff like this,
but then I hear Monty Python's choir singing "Every Sperm is Sacred" and I feel better.

It doesn't solve the problem of groupthink lunacy, but at least I don't find myself wasting any more thought on it.

It is utterly ludicrous. I suppose those kids can pray to St. Goldie Mahalia, the patron saint of crack whores, for relief from those unexplainable burns, itches, and inexplicable(and immaculate) weight gains and morning nausea...

Back when I had my son, people had tried to tell me how you could get free diapers from the Catholic church, and that I should look into it.
Fortunately I am not so blind as to know that nothing from a church is truely free.  And some are worse than others.  What people won't do to try to force their beliefs on others. Sad.

Sunnybeach7 -- the real problems with this religion are in the thrid world
They have the largest mission infrastructure of any religion and provide irreplaceable aid to may desperate regions of the globe. Where this is admirable on the surface, with this aid they also spread the most dangerous of messages in a faith system that prohibits the use of any form of contraceptive. Not only are they refusing to face the reality of overpopulation in these desperate regions, no contraceptives means no condoms, they also contribute to the world health crisis pertaining to STD's. In our part of the world this is not nearly as huge a problem until they begin setting up universities without access to contraceptives..how incredibly stupid.

Ahhhh...don't get me started! LOL.  While I believe in fantasy, living in it constantly is something else.   All of this is really making me hate the Catholic church.
They need to wake up to the reality.  The thing is that they don't care about things that could harm people.  They feel that their God will take care of everything.

Sunnybeach7 - I can't get over how ridiculous the entire premise is
I remember my college years, like everyone else my age back then I had one thing that was constantly on my mind. Are the kids attending this college any different? Not likely. How utterly hypocritical, to attempt to enforce a prohibition that flies completely in the face of reality and has far reaching and very dangerous consequences.

Not only is this sad, but sick as well.  Can you imagine the increase of  STDs this area will have?
