I was with them for the first couple of premises...

strat - I can give you a quick rundown
The pope is the Devil in disguise, the true church of God was formed in 1780 when the "wilderness period" ended. The wilderness period had something to do with the Catholic church being a bunch of criminals and some whore who lived in the woods. "Whore" is a word that they used. They also insist that only they know how to read the bible properly and that all biblical prophecy can be accurately predicted and proven by using the bible itself as a means of translating the hidden messages within it. Oh yeah....this is mankind's last chance to get it right before Jesus comes back and blows the place up. ....what's not to believe?

There was a fifty something Korean woman who used to walk around
our neighborhood in California. She once told me, "Eve got screwed." I nearly died laughing at this. She was good for zany one-liners. Most had quite a bit of wisdom or truth to them.

Talion - the only problem that I have with that premise is it assumes that

the "great evil" will be someone other than ourselves.

Like who of the warring parties on this earth are the Hobbits, Gandolph etc. or the good guys.... and who are the dark forces (whatever they are called, the ugly guys led by Christopher Lee ).......the bad guys? Are we really the good guys in a broad sense?

Actually, I'm more inclined to believe the LOTR storyline. Afterall, with it we have all the beings of the world coming together and putting aside their differences in order to combat and ultimately defeat a great evil for everyone's benefit. This is much better than the idea of a only a select few being whisked out of harm's way leaving the rest of us poor slobs to suffer.

Well, you know, Gomedome, we have been tagged with that before.
That whole snake and apple thing.  I still believe in myths, but only on a symbolic level, as metaphor.

Talion - I'm killing myself laughing here

I particularly liked the part about how they used the bible to interpret and prove all of the bible prophecies. Especially when they said that this method was infallable.....This can't be real can it? You and I don't drive on the same highways as these people do we?

Its funny; when you were outlining Lord of the Rings in your comment...is there really much difference here? The disconnect with reality, the belief in the supernatural and the willingness to lend credence to the improbable......I wonder how many people in this world actually think that the LOTR trilogy was a documentary?

I like this chick though, Gomedome,

Funny how somewhere in all the religious text there's a hot chick. I noticed that in The Ten Commandments, the movie, there are always dancing slave girls.  Go figure.

"... and one ring to rule them all." It's really quite simple what must be done. We give the magic ring to a band of intrepid heroes, including a "fairy" and a few "little people" who must take it to the top of Mount Doom and throw it in the fire where is was created. Hey, this sounds like the plot of a great movie. Maybe even a trilogy! Nah, nobody would believe it. Not even Hollywood wizardry could pull this off.

I try not to ridicule anyone's religious beliefs, but this is hard to pass up.

OMG.....Hahaha.
I didn't read all that stuff on that link....but that's crazy!

I kinda appreciate our own crazies here.  Without them, things would likely be a bit boring. LOL
