Oops, Julia, obviously the comment I made was in response to the other.
I used "you" just because I was answering that one.

Okay, AGAIN I DID NOT WRITE MY POST FOR YOU.
I've said it privately and publicly.  I don't know why you keep saying it.  You can be upset that I said it WASN'T about you so it, in effect, drew attention.  But please stop staying I wrote it about you.  I Didn't.  And I didn't compare anyone you care about to Jerry Springer guests.  I was responding to a very different post, as I have told you over and over.  I didn't even know you had said you were leaving again when I wrote it.   So if you can be offended by something I didn't say and didn't mean, I guess it's time I"m offended that you keep publicly using my post to relate to you.  That's narcissistic.  You want it to be about you.  You are drawing negative attention to you.  Let it die, or at least stop dropping the bread crumbs that lead people back to you --- which was your objection from the start.

I thoroughly read the post Terpgirl wrote about me.

The fact that she says it's NOT about me, makes it about me. There's no getting around that!

I do agree that different people bring different experiences and view poiints to the table.  That's unavoidable.

Should you simply ignore it when someone says they're tired of you saying you're leaving and then NOT leaving? Should you NOT be offended when they compare your friends who ask you to stay, to guests on the Jerry Springer show???

That's the unfortunate thing about verbal/written communication...but that's the fortunate thing about loving writing--that search for the perfect word.  I don't think it's just words and reading into which we take our past experiences, but everything.  It bleeds over; it's the human condition.

Insightful post!

..and that doesn't always work either... oh, well....

Julia., I suppose it's a combination of things, being pressed for time,
is a big part of it, limited attention span due to so many blogs.  Who knows?

Julia

If someone skims over my posts they could end up very confused. I have seen where some people have left comments and I wonder "what the heck are they talking about"..I wouldn't make a good skimmer, sometimes I read two or three time to insure I have picked up the message they are trying to convey!

How are you feeling? Hopefully all back to normal!!!

If I skim I try not to comment.
If I'm short on time, I do skim through sometimes. But then I try not to comment. I try to make a mental note to come back and read thoroughly. :) I like your writing style.

Sometimes there are misunderstandings
not so much about skimming but when we comment on only one aspect of a post. I have had people complain that I am only picking up on one sentence in a post but a reader is not to know which sentence the writer places more value on.If it is written all is out for interpreting however  we see fit. I don't think it is  fair to complain about people who leave brief comments. Sometimes people are able to read more if they are not obligated to comment everywhere. Some people have very hectic lives and do the best they can.

Julia
If I find myself reduced to skimming, I usually don't comment for that very reason.

Julia-
College has endowed me with a pretty good ability to skim, but I consider it a matter of polite consideration not to go skimmydipping in other people's blogs

It is not just simple mis-cue reading. Some turn stalkers when they won't let the matter rest.

Julia, It is a bit exasperating to have people pull a tidbit out of the context in which one meant and focus upon that in a comment.  I see it all the time in not only my posts but in so many others.   But, if we complain about that too often, people will stop reading you.   Like you say we are all coming from where we are and that is what we want to see and comment.

Julia.

I understand exactly what you are saying... no, I did not skim on your blog but I did have a skimmer on my blog... do you remember? It was so obvious Ha Ha

I understand all that you say....
...and it is probably true in many cases. But do you think some people just want to make a quick comment so that you might get back to them and therefore they have only skimmed over the content without getting the gist of it? I think it may be a possibility.

Julia.
(I love the dot behind your name!)
I, too, like Mystic just said, am a word for word reader.  I plod never skim and therefore don't fall into that category of rushing thru the reading.  I will ready someone's blog, especially if it entails contemplation as Avant's most often do, several times through until it gels with me and what my prior understanding may have been.  Well-written post, btw!

there are indeed alot of misunderstandings. I don't think I'd comment on something I  just skimmed over, but I rarely do that as I'm an every word reader, and a contemplator. Thats why I don't get around as much as some of the rest of you. I'm slow and I spend way too long on each page attempting to hear you correctly

So true, like I mentioned
in my previous comment, it is difficult to pass a true meaning across without seeing the face speaking. Oh, and skimmers generally miss the point altogether

vis-a-vis a new poetry contest?

Well written.  I agree.  Just in life many people took what I said out of context.  Sometimes if I've been thru something I will share what didn't work for me but it could work for you, but I wouldn't advise it unless you are sure thats what you want to do.  Other times, I want to be positive for myself, I want a better life in every aspect.  There are times the truth must be told for myself .  When I read other blogs I learn something from everyone., you get a sense of people's personalities and thoughts and ideas of where they come from.  When I receive a negative comment, it hurts, of course, I'm human, but I push to move on.  Your post was well written- Keep writing.

educational post- if we want true self-education. Bloggers hurry, skim, fly

through the posts when they are busy...that too leads to only a glimpse of what you have said. Many of us need second and third readings, much like we do with great art, music and poetry. Here's a gift
