ShutterCat, There was an incident like that with the Veterans Administration also. My son received a letter telling him to be aware that all of his information give to VA Hospital when he was there was in the hands of someone unknown because of stolen laptops.

yea...this is a huge problem...and it can't and shouldn't be solved by handcuffing a briefcase to a dude's wrist. although that has a really cool, 007 feel to it. However, the solution to this problem lies with securing the data on the laptops. Any sensitive data should be encrypted, there should be passwords on the OSes and the hardware. theft will occur, there's no stopping that. But the more secure the data is, the less chance of some chick in Alaska charging $29834502987 worth of Victorias Secret on my credit, because it lifts and separates...
