I was lucky because I was dragged here by a friend. I never saw the

advertisements, nor did I come here with any grand delusions....

I just came to blog.  Period.  So far, it's worked out great.  LOL

Sunnybeach7 - When I croak I'm going to insist on a cardboard coffin
I don't want one penny that others could use wasted on burying me but I do understand what you are saying. Something such as the "welfare coffin" as the cardboard coffins have come to be called, is completely demoralizing for the survivors of the deceased. It is quite different when it is requested in a person's will.

gome
I think many of us came to Blogit with misconceptions about what to expect here.

A cardboard box?  That's truely sad. Not that it would really bother me, I guess, as I view the body as just a temporary shell, but it's sad that so much money is spent in our governents on other things, but then we have to bury someone in a cardboard box.

Schatz
Don't go running off!  People will say the stupid crap they say wherever you are. It's really out of ignorance.  People who are so closed minded that they can't even begin to understand the views of others really do live in ignorance. They prevent themselves from learning and experiencing.

The good thing about being a seeker is that you are always able to see things with open eyes as they present themselves to you.

I can best describe myself as Pagan, but I am still a seeker, I have changed my thoughts and views on things many times while still seeking.  That's the beauty of it...you are always up for change and can always go with what feels right to you, and you don't shut yourself off from learning.

Schatz -- I can identify with that - I've lost count how many times I have

been called an atheist even after professing agnosticism.

I can also see where someone may tire of the hassles associated with dealing with some of these religious folks. Some of them seem to be only one marginal step more advanced than the Taliban in their thinking. It is always a shame when this site loses a good citizen and contributor, even moreso when it is due to the ignorant actions of others. I wouldn't ask you to reconsider because ultimately you must make a decision that works for you but I will say that I hate to see people such as youself succumb to the subtle ostracism perpetrated by the members of a religious clique.

Xeno-x I agree with you about folks reading things into your blogs.

Gome, I have been thinking about leaving for a week or so. I just don't post about it since it's so cliche around here.

Because I often state that I am not a Christian people seem to take it into their heads that I am an athiest, which couldn't be farther from the truth. I am, quite frankly, afraid to classify myself as a 'seeker', but I guess that's what I am. I'm just afraid that pushy people will take that as an invitation to 'save me'. I guess I'm just tired of people accusing me of things. I don't think I am a bad person, but sometimes I get to thinking that I do seem to piss a lot of people off inadvertently.

blackcat30 - that's basically the mental process that I went through
It was a little bit different back then however. This site was being advertised a little different than it is now, with earnings implied to be much higher than they actually are and with catch phrases about this being a "writer's marketplace". Where I am not usually a sucker for advertising promises, there was a great disparity in my mind between what was advertised and what existed. Once I got over that aspect and began enjoying my time here, those things no longer mattered.

You said it well, as usual. : )

I never had a problem with the site because from the start, I was here for entertainment and a break from the real world.

Perhaps that's the key.  When something doesn't meet expectations, you either have to adjust your own attitude or move on...  Why waste time worrying about something that you can't control?   Just my take.

Xeno-x - I remember that guy - he knew that the bible was infallable

and everyone else in the world was stupid for not realizing it.

I still haven't seen you do anything that would be justification for someone to leave. If they did leave because of you, it can only be an excuse for other issues. That's a good picture of you but I am taken aback at how long your hair is and it seems to be growing only down the middle of your face......no barbers out your way?

i think i'll make my own pine box

other than that,

me too

i didn't know what to expect when i came on board.  Kooka, my son, introduced me to it.   I just wanted to run up the flag and see who saluted.  got into a couple of nasty exchanges (you remember the guy who.named himself after a rap song about handlers of prostitutes)

what gets me is people reading in to my word what isn't there.  that was the problem then; that's the problem now.  that gets irritating.

but do you see me packing up and leaving?  no.  seems some will say that people are leaving because of me.  -- hmmmm.

Go to fullsize image

that's what i am.

TVBlogger - I made much the same decision as well
When I first started here I used to compete for clicks like everyone else but then realized that doing so wasn't for me. I even left for awhile but within a few months actually missed this place. I can say that doing your own thing, posting what you want and participating in Blogit the way that suits you has worked for me.

I was actually joking about the pine box, lol...
even though I felt like I WANTED to die, i didn't get as far as ordering the coffin.

Julia. -- hang onto it, we'll all need one sooner or later

I read about your bout with the flu and hope you get well soon, you have my sympathy, I went through much the same thing a few years back. There is not a part of your body that doesn't ache, it knocks the starch right out of you.

Deriving the positives is how I see it as well. I've gotten a lot out of Blogit. Considering that my English grammer has always been attrocious and that I was nearly computer illiterate when I first joined Blogit, I can say that I have gained a lot from this place. Meeting lots of wonderful people and even sparring with not so wonderful people has been great fun for me. It gives us the opportunity to peer inside the minds of an entire range of our fellow humans. It also has given me an insight into the thinking of the citizens of my biggest market in the USA.....I love Blogit.

I had my disappointments too...
When I saw the tactics most use to make and stay in the top blogs I knew I didn't have a shot in hell of making any money here.  However, I'm not going to go to their blogs and berate them... I find their trick titles disrespectful to the reader but, hey, if people are stupid enough to play along with their game, let 'em.   I just don't read there anymore.  I have plans to leave here when my year is up but that's only because of the time drain.   I'm not going to leave here in a huff.  Blogit is what it is.  I decided to kiss my subscription money goodbye, chalk it up to a lesson learned, stay in my little corner doing what I do and if someone chooses to read that's just fine.

and often, what you get out of any person, place or experience,
is how you choose to see it. Look at it positively and it will be so. I ordered a pine box for me the other day cuz' I was so sick I wasn't sure I'd make it...but I'm actually sitting upright today, so that can only be a good sign. Do you suppose I can get a refund?
