You Guys...
...are weird.
That 'two-bit dictator' was elected, twice, in iny=ternationally monitored elections that were declared both free and fair. And that's more than can be said for your own Dear Leader, unfortunately.
He's popular because a) he's giving unused land to landless peasants and native Indians; b) he's setting the army to work building schools and clinics to serve some of the poorest and remote areas of the country, and c) he's taking more money from the international oil companies for the privilige of exploiting his country's oil wealth, and that money is going directly to tackle poverty.
Why would ANYONE have a problem with these ideas? Because they go against US ideas of global hegemony, perhaps?
