It seems to me that stopping people from crashing planes
into buildings would be along those lines.

Success -
I'd add to Oddy's post that we must ensure that the action that we take is going to accomplish something POSITIVE.

I haven't been following Iraq like I should
My guess is that we aren't really trying or that we don't have clear goals.

Yes, but we must insure that the action we take is going to
accomplish something. Do you think we are accomplishing much presently with our troops in Iraq?

Odysseus, I'm all for negotiation
but when they fail it doens't do any good to keep on trying. They are going to keep pushing until they get the response they want or until they rule the world.
Not responding reminds me of an incident with the local cops last year. They were trying to arrest some people that had been in a fight with guests, employees, and security. One of the officers had his stick out and was yelling, "Get on the ground, get on the ground, get on the ground!" He yelled it and yelled dozens of times while these people walked out of the casino. He never did anything and they just kept walking. They walked across the state line and the cops shrugged and said, "Well, there's nothing we can do now."
At some point, you have to stop talking and take action.

Success……….I very much understand your position here.
The big problem with it all though is that the ones who will be fighting this enormous war will be but young pawns, not fully understanding the reasons why they are sacrificing their lives. And the broader view of it all is that it is so ridiculous that people should slay one another over something like this. Nonetheless, as you say, it may ultimately come to the point where it is “
kill or be killed” and certainly, at that juncture, our survival instincts kick in. As much as I like to tout nonviolence, I know that if I witnessed something like an attack upon a defenseless Nun, I’d be all over it like white on rice!
