People should be able to express themselves on blogit, I've always respected your posts! Even when I've disagreed with you, I appreciate how you handled yourself and your responses back to me.....you always make me think twice about things and that is good! Thanks!

Corbin,
yeah, okay, but I could tell you weren't making a solid effort somehow, it was kind of like... you know...but I guess that's all I can expect from you...

Corbin,

I guess I am missing all the fun! I have never been attacked, so what am I, chopped liver?

Actually, come to think of it, I was attacked once, on my very first post, by someone who's no longer with us, and you, Corbin, told me on that occasion that I might as well get used to personal attacks! (And anyone who is interested in that momentous event can look it up!)

But it hasn't happened since! The odd little dig maybe, but no daggers, no baseball bats! So what gives? Don't I rate???

The enduring popularity of personal attacks

Dear C:

Sure thing, Bucko. Part of the problem is very few of our fellow bloggers ever belonged to a formal debating team. In a real debate (as opposed to much of what we see not only here, but in plenty of media outlets staffed by people who should know better) the ad hominem argument is off-limits. You can be as passionate as you wish about despising your opponent's arguments, but attacks on his/her character, intelligence or motivations are strictly off-limits for obvious reasons. Who cares if he's an ignorant chicken-sucker without an ounce of sense or honor? His argument may still be rock-solid, and that's what you must address.

But bloggers - and media types - are, too often, not out to engage in lively exchanges of information and opinion. All they want to do is vent, and the louder and nastier, the better.

It is my observation on the nature of humanity that some folks would rather whine and gripe and cast aspersions on the goodness of their fellow beings than eat chocolate cake with icing and Hagen Daz. Go figure. It probably has something to do with the way their families resolved conflicts when they were very young.

Pity them. And if they cross the ad homien line, quit reading their screeds, erase their poisonous comments from your own blog, and leave them to stew in their own juices.

They either will or won't figure out why only people as irrational and hateful as they ever respond to their bilious attacks.

And in the meantime, we will be having a ball, swapping opinions, sharing information and seeking points of consensus like happy adults.

As I say, pity them. And treasure us!

There are many hidden treasures around here. Yes, count to ten. Trouble starts when one man's treasure is another's displeasure.

Sorry, bad editing on my part, think you'll make sense of it.
Apologies, I'm just exhausted and trying desperately to find some fun in here tonight.

Corbin_Dallas, This too will pass.   Some may leave but new bloggers will take their places.  Remember the thing about sticking your finger in a bucket of water and pulling it out?   That's the way life is.

Corbin, I think the penalty for continuance of this should be a weekend of
babysitting for me???

This all started with a bit of banter, and I think everyone who felt the need said their piece in one variation or another, when it degenerated from questioning style of writing to personal attacks, well, it just got way out of hand.

Personally, I know who's styles I like, but I'm not going to shove it down anyone's gob, and choose to avoid those I don't like.  Equally though, I don't think Blogit would be the same place without them, whether or not I agree with their postings.

I  do however have a big ass problem with things being made it impossible for me to come here and enjoy myself.  Don't tell me who to blame all of those recent bloggers who've appointed themselves spokespeople, an argument cannot be sustained by one group or person.

Thank you, Corbin ...

That's very sweet of you to say.

Dad always thought laughter was the best medicine,
which I guess is why several of us died of tuberculosis.

Corbin, it needs to stop. period.

It's getting way out of hand.  Whoever started this in the first place needs to be ashamed of themselves.

Oh, and btw...I know who that is.

PostSmile!  I agree ~ All this negitivity is not benefiting anyone and causing some who are not involved to leave, take a break or be drained by the emotional impact.

Yeah, where was all this negativity that everyone's referring to?

And if you think this is bad, you guys should have visited the young writer's forum (while I was a moderator there). It was rare for a comment not to begin with "Look, retard ..." or  "Listen, assface ..."

Although, things seem to have calmed down a bit after I was banned.

The tired and thirsty prospector threw himself down at the edge of the watering hole
and started to drink.
But then he looked around and saw skulls and bones everywhere.
"Uh-oh," he thought.
"This watering hole is reserved for skeletons."

This is the second post that I have read today
about the clash on Blogit.  Somehow I seemed to have missed it.  But from the sounds of it, I think I'm lucky.
