an ornithologist friend of mine has a clock that cheeps a bird call on the
hours, with a picture of that bird on the face of the clock where the number should be, ie, 11:00 is a blue jay.

I love the sound of a clock ticking
but not a clock that chimes. We had one in our parents' house when I was a child. My grandfather made wooden clocks, very beautiful but I hated the noise it made. Every hour the damn thing used to chime such an irritating sound and went ding dong ding dong that sometimes I wanted to grab the thing and throw it in the swimming pool... Ha Ha...

Whacky, no, we don't have any chiming clocks, I think they'd wake me up
going off in the middle of the night. Did you find the key when you were painting the shed?

I can't handle the ticking of clocks, because I'm an extremely light
sleeper, that ticking can keep me up all night. But, I'm glad you found the key though. It must have been exciting when the key fits the hole.

Good fortune that you found the key!

...good news that you found that key! I have a clock that ticks softly and find it very pleasant. It doesn't chime but church bells nearby do - every half hour, then chime a hymn. -fine during the day; luckily they turn it off during the night.

We have four clocks downstairs, not including the microwave and the cooker. None of them chime and none of them are consulted 'cos we use the computer - daft isn't it? I haven't seen the word 'tad' for a looong time, Whacky.

my father has the clock, a smaller wall-mount model with a pleasant chime,
low tone, non-intrusive. i love how you can hear the gears swing into action to make the chimes sound.
