A committee of gods. I can see that.
Sorry Aphrodite but we're outsourcing and Yahveh will be taking up your portion of godhood.

Surveys and studies show again and again that a majority of Americans
actually believe that to be a moral person you have to be a religious person. Since 87% of Americans consider themselves Christians, I'm sure they mean a Christian religious person. Confucious and Buddha and others were moralists. If given the chance, I wonder if they would convert? As for the idea of god's evolving, there is little doubt that it is so. God must evolve with humanity and the needs of the collective or pass the way of all other fallen and obsolete gods.

Gome, I think many people have been conditioned to think that
they must have religion in their life, that somehow they can't be whole without a religion.

Passion, I don't know that I have ever said that I don't believe in god
In fact, in several posts I have stated that I believe in all the gods. If believing in one god is good, than believing in hundreds of gods is hundreds of times better. Nyah!

SuccessWarrior - thinking that it is necessary when it is not
is what keeps beliefs in irrational religious constructs alive.

The only thing wrong with your theory is that God DOES exist.
His Kingdom exists. Angels exist. And the kingdom of darkness that we refer to as "Hell" also exists.
You'll see for yourself one day. Till then, I want to know why you don't want to believe in God.

TV, I think you might be onto something there
A longing for a parent to come kiss the ouches and make them all better.
Poeple would probably find the comfort they needed if they would put as much effort into their personal development and into creating truly loving relationships with others.

Thanks gome. That's how I see it.
Do you really need an almighty power from above to tell you not to kill people and sleep with your neighbor's wife?
And then there's the fact that they ignore the teachings anyway and go around killing people and sleeping with their neighbor's wife.

There are times....
when things get rough that I long for the days when I could just convince myself that if I prayed hard enough to God, he would drop anything and take care of it. It's like longing for the days when you were a kid and your parents handled everything. But we all have to grow up sometime. Taking responsibility for my actions and my life can be a lot of work sometimes, but it has been the most freeing thing I've ever done.

SuccessWarrior -- right on - this says it all >>>
"In the religious world, there are those that refuse to grow up, leave the fantasy behind, and live a life of personal responsibility doing what's right for the sake of its rightness."

we see in part; we know in part
and as things become better known, then our perception changes.
but we will never find god
we can only experience, thus be god in our experience.
we shouildn't be searching hither and yon for that which is in us.
