the educational market is a bit croweded as it is. At Rutgers, Blackboark, WebCT (i think it's a Rutgers service), e-college, and sakai are all used. which to use is a choice of the professor. I have seen them be used effectively, and also really poorly.
Blogit is really not suitable for academia. The pay model is unpractical. The most used feaure of the above mentioned systems are the file features for posting content. blogit does not offer any features like that.
