passionflower, perfection is a medieval concept

not a biblical one

the passage "be perfect as your father in heavenis perfect"

the greek word rendered perfect really means mature.

maturity implies growth.

and id do think god evolves -- GOD AS THE UNIVERSE AS AN ORGANISM, that is -- a perfect god that is unchanging is an illusion.

when scripture talks about unchanging, it means the basic precepts by which we should live -- in that manner, god is unchanging.

our concept of god, however, does (or at least should) evolve.

mainly because the original concepts were as "seeing through a glass, darkly"

Sannhet, that's possible
It does bring up the question why the level of maturity hasn't increased for many of the religions of the world since then.

Success and Darrke -
I don't think there are two "Gods". But I do think that people are at various levels of spiritual maturity. So perhaps when the Old Testament was written, the level of spiritual maturity was on the low side. When the New Testament was written, maybe the spiritual maturity level had risen.

Darrke, that's a good point for people that do believe in the bible

that also believe that god doesn't change.  There are a lot of people like that but the two books are definately different.  Either god changed or there were two different gods.

People that believe in the bible usually say that there is only one god even though the bible says that you shouldn't put the other gods before the god of the bible.  Obviously there were many gods at the time the bible was written and someone was making this god the most important one.

It's similar to when the pharoah told his people that they would worship Ra above all the other gods.

And I thought that the Bible was the story of God's evolution...
from a "go kill all the men, women, and children" and "stone the sinners" to a "love your neighbor" and "turn the other cheek" kind of guy (or gal?)  But if you don't believe in the Bible, then I can see how you might see God as unchanging.

Nice thought Sannhet, I hadn't thought of it that way.
I will have to give this some thought.  Thank you for the visit and the comment.

Success -
I don't know much about "God", being a only humble student of Love, but since I do believe that we are all a part of "God", and since we are an evolving entity, then somehow a part of "God", it would seem, is evolving too.

Passion, I agree that god doesn't evolve. God is god.
I do disagree that god is a "him" but I'll save that for another day.

The reason that God doesn't evolve is that he's perfect.

And has no need of evolution. Also, the bible says he is constant and unchanging. This is one of the aspects of God that drew me to him. The world is so full of trouble and discord.

Things and people change all around us. People die, people are born. People love you and then they don't. I needed one thing or person who would always remain the same no matter what...and of course that person is God.

He has always loved me in spite of myself. He has been quick to forgive me although I've had to pay for many of my poor choices.

If you are on a genuine search for Truth, you will find God at the end of it. But if you are merely looking for excuses NOT to believe, then you will remain lost in a maze of your own making.
