the earliest depictions of Yeshua show a rather dark-skinned young man
with dark, curly hair.  this on the walls of the catacombs of Rome.

considering the Middle East today and even then, the inhabitants were of drk-haired, darker skinned stock.  Yeshua probably looked like many a dark-haired Jew or Arab.

Heck, he might have been stopped at airline security for his looks.

about the common depictions -- the C hurch wanted to get away from Jewishness (anti-semitism).  And the depictions of such a handsome man, it is said, have been the fantasy of many a nun.

What did Jesus taste like too?
Just like the pictures of Jesus tend to match the culture from which the artist is from, I think that the wafers or other kinds of bread taste nothing like the real Jesus, who would likely have tasted a lot more like curry.  All kidding aside,  I can't imagine that all of the liberties that artists and churches have taken with the picture of Jesus doesn't hurt the credibility of western religions.  There is no one with an ounce of sense that could believe that Jesus is white.  I have never really looked for a picture that I think would accurately depict him, but I would be far more likely to take Christianity seriously if he appeared Middle Eastern in their depictions of him.  Good question my friend, maybe more important than I had taken the time to appreciate before.

kooka_lives - I have always wondered why we do not have an accurate

depiction of Jesus Christ right down to the last mole or freckle on his face?

We should have a complete picture when you consider how many times in history people have claimed to see him in visions.........There is an important key to the validity of religious icons and their manifestations to be found in these visions. Invariably, the visions of Jesus over history have never wavered from artist's renderings of his appearance as contemporary to the person experiencing the manifestation.  You would think that someone would catch onto this but we can never underestimate the ability of the faithful to ignore reality. The real comedy concerning these visions comes into play in this last century. One of the most famous of artists renderings of Jesus Christ was done by a Swedish artist who took the liberty of making the prophet of Jewish descent blonde haired and blue eyed.......it's amazing how so many visions of Jesus after the wide spread circulation of this painting has the person describing the manifestation as blonde haired and blue eyed. .....
