I disagree Darrke, at least at the highest levels
The people that claim to be speaking directly with God or Jesus in person know that they aren't and those close to them know this too.  Those that claim to get inspiration are completely different but many religious leaders claim to have a direct line with God.  Those people, and those close by that know the truth about how church decisions are made, continue the hoax.

Did I miss something?
I don't think they are all lying, in fact, I think many have some real experience that they phrase in terms of their religion and so have only the best intentions...they just don't realize their words, their religious vocabulary, doesn't make sense to a non-member/non-beliver.  I think if they had to strip out the religious mumbo-jumbo and just talk about how they feel and give more facts about a situation the true believers and the paid preachers would sort themselves out rather quickly.  But for now the fleecers can hide behind a bunch of words with double meanings making it easy to take in the new converts ... and even lead some very real/devout people into strange paths without their ever catching on.

I don't know how this second conversion occurs
It seems like it would be hard to do if you were a true believer in the religion that you were in.  Money has a more powerful influence than god.  Probably because money is here right now, not some distant promise.

SuccessWarrior - yeah....no kidding.... how do you make that switch?
It has to be a convoluted self justification based on the same premise as used by some of the knuckleheads we have seen around here who lie for Jesus.
