It's  deplorable to see that most of our patrimony consisting of old buildings are being pulled down

Everyone is clear that they will be home at 5PM for dinner.

Rumored
But they are well cherished memories.  Sunday night sheets were always the best.  My mother changed all the bedding on Sunday night and I had the fresh clean sheets.  Still a smell I adore.

Bel, you can always come back with the old favorite, "Well, if Emily jumped

off a cliff, would you do that, too?"  It can be tough, when parents are trying to be their kids best friend or the "cool parent", like my ex-friend and her 17 year old daughter and the party she threw for her daughter's friends, on New Years' Eve.  I realize now that was not a good idea, even though at the time, I thought, like she did, "If kids are going to drink, then let them do it somewhere safe".  We could have been in so much trouble. (We're not friends anymore, long story there).

Anyway, it looks like you and Carl had a great trip.

Blanche

It truly is a battle, especially since these days depending on the parent depends on what is allowed.  I can't imagine any of my friends being allowed to watch even some of the stuff on TV let alone the movies.  These days between TV, cable, sattelite and DVD's and lack of parental supervision it's tough to battle when I hear "Emily's mom let's her watch rated R movies."    I try to do what I believe to be in her best interest even when she thinks I am unfair.

As for the cabin, I have no idea.  It was there all by itself with nothing to identify anything about it.  I made Carl drive very, very slow so I could take the photo.

Bel, how old is that cabin? It looks like it could be over 100 years old.
I thought you must be busy with the kids going back to school.  I don't think having a mandatory dinner one day a week is a bad idea, some time when everybody gets to find out how the rest of the family is doing.  Good luck with finding a movie you can approve of for Pam to watch. These days that's got to be tough.  I think about what it would be like to have kids, to try to shield or screen them from all t hat goes on in the world, and try to teach them not to follow the herd mentality, and I realize how tough that job is.

bel, I'm with you on that..a good roast of beef dinner, Walt Disney World..
with Davey Crockett always catching the bad guys, and yes, they might be injuns....hating to go home b/c that meant bed and school the next morning...now its just memories of a lifestyle gone by the wayside...

Good idea, bel.  Do it!  Don't wait too long though.  They won't go for it.

Did you look at Ariala's blog under "on writing" lately?
I thought of you when I looked at her post yesterday -- a military magazine is looking for writers to do articles on the impacts on family that come from the deployment of one member of the family & maybe I'm forgetting the details - but you could tell 'em a thing or two, and well-written, too.  :)

bel,
it would be fun to explore the history of that cabin, there is something mysterious about it...

Queen V and I eat together on average six days a week, informally lounging in front of the TV, whether she cooks or it's fast food. Friday night is "date night" where we go to some restaurant. Of course this routine is easy for us since we don't have kids.

There are many in the area similar to that.

I'd probably fight to preserve that building if I had the opportunity.
