Jane's and MUSER I agree with both of you. They will have to divide and
still be under one jurisdiction and live with the benefits and the losses.

I agree with muser's very reasoned response.
Much of their citizenry seems elated to have the democratic process, but there are still a minority bent on blowing up fellow citizens and for what purpose????  To keep the Americans present longer?  That seems stupid.  So I hope that with time more Iraqis will begin to think with their heads rather than with pure emotion and an AK 47 or roadside bomb.

Hi Justi, I believe there is NOT a solution that will be accepted by
all Iraquis, just like in the U.S. all decisions by our lawmakers are not accepted by all voters...that does not mean, however, that those decisions are null and void to the constituents who do not agree!! The Iraquis as a country seemed to be ecstatic with being able to vote during their first free election. They now need to understand with some modicum of maturity that voting doesn't always get one the desired results for which they voted, or that all decisions made by the elected officials they did vote for will necessarily reflect their own.

Justi,
this is primarily a symbolic step! That's not to say that symbols are not important, but for now I don't think there will be many practical changes. It'll be a long road still...

Justi
I see this as a step forward, but not a big enough one to bring the troops home. It's a step in the right direction though!

I don't know the answers to your questions, Justi, but I do know is that more than anything, I want it to end and I want our sons and daughters home.  I pray it will work soon.

How are you, dear lady?   I don't hear much from you anymore.  I know you're busy with your newly-found volunteering, but I miss you.  Take care and God bless.

Of course I want our guys and gals to come home ...

some of those standing in the path are my friends and the spouses of my friends.  But, I believe (and most of thsoe over there now understand) that the timing isn't quite right.  Politically, it seems to make the most sense to divide the country into thirds and the groups separating, but will those who are living in the wrong section willingly move?  Is it fair to ask them to move?  If Iraq splits, what does this mean for the rest of the area in the long term?

I'm just thankful I'm not on the team that has to figure all this out!

It's a long tunnel, Justi, with the light hard to see - if at all - at this point. Still, freedom from Saddam's tyranny may prevail over long-standing tribal differences. More often than not, it does! (I do think they'll still want the help of U.S. military.)

Tanga, alternative resources could be developed without to much
of a scramble. It is money that is holding the string. We have oil too. But the green people who will not give up driving the gas guzzlers will not allow drilling. Common sense is at an all time low in our country today.

If the soldiers leave
I see anarchy returning in a matter of months. I see oil prices esculate and the world economy start stumbling. It is time for the scientists to develop an alternate fuel source so that no country has to be dependant on other countries. Anyway rather let all tumble and bring the soldiers home. I hear huge untapped oil reservoirs are being discovered in Nigeria in any case.
