While doing research for my six part seris on the Spanish Inquisition, I was struck forcibly by how every modern organ of repression NKVD, later KGB, Gestapo, Stasi, et al duplicated exactly the Inquisition's methods of arrest and incarceration.
They might not have ben so gros in their methods of interrogation, but all arrested the supect in the dead of night. whisked him off without trace, and let the suspense among his family of where he had gone build to intolerable levels.
Some, particularly the NKVD, never told the accused what he was suspected of having done.
Oh yes, the Spanish Inquisition was the ptototype, and true progenitor of every organ of repression that we have come to know and love. I bet the Muslim ones are identical too.
