terpgirl, you can do almost anything in jail these days - it was recorded
before I was so unjustly incarcerated however.

Passion

Thanks, you're absolutely right in terms of audience.

My writing specialties were fairly serious (inventors/patents and then crime/law enforcement).  My stuff was in-depth, hard hitting stuff for the most part.  Plus I was pretty successful at it, so I didn't want to throw this out to my writing group where they would expect the same level when I'm just testing --- thinking out loud, if you will.

A lot of writers find themselves grabbing a pseudonyms just to test out a different genre.  I guess that's what was in my mind.  One of my friends had done romances for years.  She switched to myseries, and they are great.  When they hit the bookstores, they always got shelved under Romantic Suspense. People--her agent, the publisher, the readers, didn't want her to switch.

I've seen Grisham, Evanovich and King do this just to do stuff they want.  Most often, in my opinion, the work isn't as good as they're real genre.  But you want to keep growing. If someone told you you had to follow some path FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE...can you imagine how boring.

But it's a great point about the length.  My one involving Jackie Mason is waaaay long for Blogit.  I want to work towards getting advertising and writing blogs that are really columns.  I've syndicated stuff in print, so this is an offshoot.  I absolutely have to keep in mind that this functions almost more like a chat room than a writing forum for most.

The part that works for me is that it MAKES me do it.  I will do the best that I can do just because it is out there in public.  So, I'll have to keep the limitations in mind as well as knowing exactly what I want to get out of it.  So far, that end of it has been successful.

.Dave
So how did you line up a radio show whilst in jail.  You really confuse me...you entertain me...but confuse me at the same time.

Nothing wrong with shameless plugging. I'm on the radio next week.

You can never tell what will do good around Blogit!

Even if it didn't do well here, though, it would NOT be an indication that the idea wasn't sound or that the writing wasn't good....

Did I say that right? Blogit is a specialized audience. We mainly like short posts on "Light" topics, i.e.

  •  What are you doing for Labor Day?
  • When did you lose your virginity?
  • If you were an animal or color, what would you be?

Good luck with your new stuff.

Covering all the bases I see
You don't often see Rush, Dennis Miller and Al Franken compared positively  in the same sentence like that.
