If they're in a retirement home now...
they were probably at Woodstock in the '60s -- and they know perfectly well what pot looks like. I'm thinking the plant in the garden was a dodge -- give the cops an easy score so they could cultivate the real stuff in a basement with grow lights... :)

Hey, think about those people in Cocoon?
They seemed pretty bright. I lived in between two little old ladies. The one was probably my best friend growing up. She was 65 the day I was born, and at age 15, I would make off to her house on a Friday to stay up eating pizza and watching Johnny Carson.
She seemed naive at times, never learned to drive, always wore a gingham dress with hosiery. Then every so often she would tell me a seriously off-color joke. Then came the real kicker. She would look at me and say, "People think I'm old and I don't know what I'm talking about half the time, so I can get away with telling dirty jokes."
