Sad yet uplifting & part of some wonderful family traiditon- if missing now

The strict ones in the family also left a yuseful and LOVING legacy in their way--shalom and enjoy the fairies--think The HObbit

MarieClaire, I often have thought of both of my grandfathers and have had many questions about them.  One of them died before I was born.  I look at his pictures and wish I had known him.  He always had a smile on his face and twinkling eyes.  I know that he loved music and that he loved to dance, sing and play several instruments.  I feel as if I missed something really grand.   The other one died when I was five.  I was in awe of him because I did not understand him.  He spoke Czech.  He always watched the children play from the front porch but he never tried to talk to us.   I wish I had known him when I was older.   I would have loved to know more about his life in Czechoslovakia before he immigrated to America.   I like the way that your poems send my thoughts traveling to memories of my own.

nonconformist you are right it is a stereotype view, never thought of it..
that way, but this is written from a kid's point of view. the adult world makes little sense to them. this is how I remember my granddad, only later did I discover his wonderful qualities. My next poem is a sequel to this one.

A nice thoughtful poem....
...I think if there wasn't a stereotyped picture of how an ideal Grandad, Granny, Mum etc should be, a lot of us would not be so dissapointed. I suspect that there are a great many who don't live up to the ideal!
