My MoM is 100% German and Very Elitist and Racist

She irons too.  Sometimes she irons all day.  She'll get this urge to do it and surely finds it theraputical.  I think there are comfort-like qualities to it.  The smells, the sounds, the actions, the iron board covers, etc.

As far as her racism goes, she'll never change.  It even extends into her own race, as in she prefers blue-eyed, blonde-haired caucasians over say, brunettes, with green eyes.

People get set in their ways and there's no getting around it. Good or ill, because we love them, we simply have to learn to live with it. By the way, check out my latest post. I think you'll get a kick out of it.

TVBlogger - that is something to be grateful for
The negative attitudes, prejudices and inherent human failings are not something that we need to learn from past generations. Our generation has plenty of its own shortcomings to rectify.

MoonSpirit -- we can laugh at some of the notions held yesteryear

pertaining to equality.

But there is very little humor to be found in hearing similar things from our contemporaries. I agree the simple notions as found in some people's very own religious messages are beyond their ability to personify.

Sunnybeach7 - how you put it is the basis of the twisted logic

(paraphrased)..."They cannot possibly share the same ideals, they were created to go to hell anyways".....we are all created in God's own image, we are all his creations and equal in God's eyes?

How do people hold these thoughts in the same cranium?

Xeno-x -- my mother was a child during the great depression
....and then spent the first 50 years of her life dirt poor. She still saves everything, every little scrap of reusable items that she comes across.

Little yellow buggers? LMAO!  This is too funny!
Are you turning into a comedian? I can hardly read your posts anymore without a good laugh. You may have to change categories soon if you keep this up.

Ok, on a more serious note...yes, it's very disturbing to me when people can claim to obediently follow such "religions" but don't give a second thought to the prejudices that escape from their mouths.
I think maybe too much time trying to focus the brain on being good and all, there is no energy left to actually practice these things.
And then, somehow, I think people really believe that if someone is somewhat "different" from them, that they can't hold the same ideals that they have and that God just created them to go to hell anyway.
Go figure.

SuccessWarrior - you know what really shocks me?
Just recently here on Blogit I read a posting describing why the USA, Britain and Israel are the 3 nations favored by God....for something authored by an adult in the year 2006, I have to classify this notion as the most ridiculous thing that I have ever heard.

RckyMtnActivist - religion in general promotes this sort of thing
It begins with the "one true path" mentality, that if nothing else, subtly implies that others are not on a true path. This is further amplified by the fact that many other religions are identified with specific ethnic groups. Then there is the fact that humans must become proactive in removing instilled prejudices from their thinking, it is an effort that individuals must be compelled for some reason to make....... for many this is too much to ask of them. They have no reason to make this effort.

Ariala -- what is really funny is that she has nothing at all against any

other visible minorities.

As for the ironing of wrapping paper. Her poverty is long behind her. She is financially secure yet still does things like this.

I relate
My parents are also of that generation.  I remember once my mom recounted a story of a friend whose daughter was dating a black guy and said, "Sometimes I wish we hadn't taught them, 'red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight.'"  I also received some pressure from my parents when I was dating someone black.  My sister adopted 2 kids from Peru and I definitely think my mom sees them as not quite as good as her natural grandchildren.  It's so frustrating.  I used to get angry about their racism but then one day I took a step back and realized that it was a belief they hadn't passed on to their kids.  I became so grateful and appreciative of that and it is what has allowed me to forgive them.

Gomedome, I'm sorry. (not) I laughed outloud. My mother is of the same generation and holds the same stereotypes and the same attitudes. It's just funny about the outrageousness of it all. PCism is just as outrageous, IMHO. Jesus was the "God of love." The lessons are simple: love one another, all are equal in the eyes of God, look at your own failings and don't criticize others, don't cast judgment, do good, help one another - how difficult is  this? Apparently, it is very difficult. Great post. MoonSpirit

I run into that all the time
generatoin after generation

people get it intheir minds and cannot get it out.

oh yeah -- about ironing xmas wrapping -- capitol idea!!!!

frugality is a very good practice -- might ruin the economy but you'll be better off yourself for it.

consider the Amish.

You already know the answer gome.
The idea of a Christian god is one of white supremacy.  God gave white male Americans the "right" to kill native Americans and enslave people with black skin.

Wow Gome..I think it's a bit late to try to change her now! LOL

Seriously I have run into similar "people of faith" that are extremely prejudiced, never could figure that one out since we are all "God's children!" I agree with Ariala...Yellow Buggers...never heard that one! Bless her heart! LOL

heard that and it made me chuckle.
