OK. FW, you made the call, now back it up!

Give us citations for those statements from Rumsfeld and Cheney. If they indeed said them when you suggest they did, then the context bears them out - they would obviously been speaking of the defeat of the Iraqi army and accomplishing the mission (AHEM!) of removing the Saddam regime as a shelter and supporter of international terrorism. Those were indeed accomplished within a matter of days. And, yes, we were greeted as liberators, but you can't bring yourself to admit it.

Where such predictions broke down was the duration of the resistance by the terrorists. I doubt anyone could have accurately foreseen that. But your approach to all this begs the question: Does the prolonged resistance by terrorists mean that Iraq and the world would have been better off if Saddam had been left in power to continue funding, arming and sheltering terrorists?

As for defining progress and winning, you only have to look back at various postings of mine. Here's one: http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Blog.aspx/WriterofLight/2006-06-15

I call BS on this blog?????
Rumsfeld and Cheney both STATED that this war would be over in a matter of days, if not weeks. We would be greeted as liberators. Gen Shisiki said we would need over 200,000 boots on the ground to be effective and he was promptly "retired." To now state that "nobody said this would be easy" is truly rewriting history. To say we are making "progress" and then failing to define "progress" or even "winning" is fiction.
