I'm sorry you're feeling poorly. I hope it's just a cold or virus, nothing more serious, and that it will pass soon. Have you heard or read anything about the optimist/pessimist studies and the effects of those qualities on health?

Jen--- Well said. I feel much the same way about the elements of my
life--- teaching, writing, nature, etc., and can not imagine not feeling that way about the things that are important to me.

i appreciate your positive attitude to life in general.
I agree that we all need passion in our lives, but as you say, you still have to keep things in perspective and have a balanced view of life. I wish I had the same amount of optimism as you have, but my circumstances are perhaps more extreme than yours, and I can be excused for feeling a little bit battered around the edges... Right now, I am at home feeling very sick and hardly able to move but as long as I can reach the keyboard, all is well!
